Westview Plantation

Westview, also known as the Burleson House, is a historic plantation located near Decatur, Alabama, built in 1841 by Jonathan Burleson. This two-story clapboard structure features a striking double-height front portico and a second-story balcony. The plantation played a significant role during the Civil War as a Union Army camp. After Burleson's death in 1866, the estate was partially sold, but the surrounding 2,600 acres remained in the family. Notably, one of Burleson's sons became an early president of Baylor University in Texas. Westview was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, making it a noteworthy site for both tourists and researchers interested in Southern history and architecture.
