Burnstein-Malin Grocery

The Burnstein-Malin Grocery, also known as Malin's Kosher Delicatessen, was a historic building in Des Moines, Iowa, showcasing the evolution of commercial establishments in the area. Originally built as a 2½-story frame house in 1896, it was transformed into a grocery store in 1923, reflecting the significant growth of businesses along Sixth Avenue during that time. A single-story brick section was added in 1940, and the building served as a notable example of modified residence-specialty stores until it was one of the last remaining structures of its kind. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998 but was unfortunately demolished and delisted in 2019.
