Rothko Chapel

Commissioned by John and Dominique de Menil and completed in 1971, the Rothko Chapel houses fourteen large paintings by Mark Rothko installed as a unified work. The non-denominational chapel serves as a site for spiritual reflection, ecumenical services, and artistic programs and is administered by the Menil Foundation. Its dimly lit, meditative interior has attracted both art-world attention and popular curiosity.
