HM Glendairy Prison

HM Glendairy Prison, located in Barbados, was a significant correctional facility that operated from 1855 until its destruction during a prison uprising in 2005. It housed up to 1,000 inmates and was replaced by HMP Dodds in 2007. The prison's history includes controversies and a Commission of Inquiry into the riot that led to its closure. Glendairy has also made appearances in popular culture, notably in the series Locked Up Abroad, and has inspired writings by former inmates. The site is now being considered for alternative uses, such as rehabilitation centers and housing for individuals with mental health issues.
