Belle Meade Plantation - buried outbuildings and slave quarters

Belle Meade Historic Site has produced archaeological evidence of buried foundations and features associated with the 19th-century plantation complex, including locations interpreted as slave quarters, kitchens, and ancillary outbuildings. Excavations and artifact analysis conducted by the site and consulting archaeologists have documented ceramic, metal, and architectural remains that helped map the plantation’s original layout. The archaeological findings have been integrated into on-site interpretation and exhibits about the estate’s antebellum and postbellum history.
