Second Baptist Church (Detroit)

Second Baptist Church was founded in 1836 and is one of Detroit’s oldest African American congregations; it played a documented role as a station on the Underground Railroad. The church at 441 Monroe Street is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been associated with abolitionist leaders such as William Lambert. It remains an active congregation and neighborhood institution.
