Deering Estate Barn

The Deering Estate Barn, originally built around 1805 in Portland, Maine, was an architecturally significant structure designed by Alexander Parris. It served as a carriage barn for the Deering estate, which was owned by prominent businessman James Deering. The barn was remodeled in 1947 for use by Portland Junior College, becoming a central hub for social and athletic events. Despite its historical importance and community protests, it was demolished in August 1969. The site now forms part of the University of Southern Maine, making it a point of interest for visitors exploring the university's rich history.
