Assassination of John Lennon outside The Dakota

On December 8, 1980, musician John Lennon was shot and fatally wounded by Mark David Chapman outside the Dakota apartment building where Lennon lived. The shooting occurred on the sidewalk near the building's entrance; Lennon was later pronounced dead. The event is widely documented as occurring at the Dakota on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
