Edifício Wilton Paes de Almeida

The Edifício Wilton Paes de Almeida, a modernist high-rise in São Paulo, was built in the 1960s and known as the 'Skin of Glass' for its unique glass façade. Initially serving as the headquarters for an importer of Belgian glass and later the Federal Police, the building was recognized for its architectural significance and listed as a historic site in 1992. Tragically, it collapsed in 2018 after a fire, resulting in multiple fatalities and highlighting issues of homelessness, as it was occupied by squatters at the time. The building's history and decline have been documented in the film 'Skin of Glass,' making it a poignant symbol of urban challenges in São Paulo.
