Fort Caroline National Memorial inside an urban area

Fort Caroline National Memorial, part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, is located within the Jacksonville city limits and protects a 16th-century French colonial site alongside coastal marshes and estuaries. Having a National Park Service memorial and preserve units situated within a major incorporated city is uncommon and creates an urban-national-park juxtaposition.
