Barton Springs salamander endemic range

The Barton Springs salamander (Eurycea sosorum) is an endangered, aquatic salamander found only in a very limited portion of the Barton Springs segment of the Edwards Aquifer in Austin. Its entire known range is restricted to spring openings and immediate outflow channels at Barton Springs in Zilker Park, which has driven federal and local conservation measures focused on water quality and spring habitat protection. The species’ extreme locality makes Barton Springs a notable biological boundary between endemic spring specialists and more widespread Texas amphibians.
