B'nai Israel Synagogue (Baltimore)

B'nai Israel Synagogue, located in the historic Jonestown neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, is one of the oldest synagogue buildings in the United States, completed in 1876. This Modern Orthodox synagogue features a unique Victorian Gothic Revival architecture that blends Romanesque and Moorish elements with traditional Jewish symbols. It was originally built for the Chizuk Amuno Congregation, which later sold the building to B'nai Israel in 1895. The synagogue is notable for its intricate Aron Kodesh and was designated a Baltimore City Landmark in 1977 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Today, it is part of the Jewish Museum of Maryland and is surrounded by Freedom Park, honoring victims of oppression.
