The New York Earth Room - long‑running indoor land art

The New York Earth Room is a permanent interior installation by Walter De Maria consisting of 280,000 pounds of earth spread in a SoHo loft at 141 Wooster Street; it was first installed in 1977 and re‑opened in 1980 and has been maintained by the Dia Art Foundation. The installation has been continuously on public view for decades and is frequently cited in accounts of New York's conceptual and minimal art scenes.
