Anna M. Kross Center

The Anna M. Kross Center (AMKC), also known as C-95, was a significant jail facility located on Rikers Island, New York City, completed in 1978 and named after former Correction Commissioner Anna M. Kross. Spanning 40 acres, it was the largest jail on the island, housing over 2,300 male inmates monthly and featuring specialized units such as a Methadone Detoxification Unit and a Mental Health Center. The facility closed in July 2023, but its kitchen operations continue to serve Rikers Island. This site reflects the complexities of the correctional system in New York City and its evolving role in public health and safety.
