Astor Place Cube (Alamo)

Tony Rosenthal's 8-foot black painted steel sculpture formally titled Alamo, commonly called the Astor Place Cube, was installed at Astor Place in 1967. The cube is designed to be manually rotated on its axis and has become a local interactive landmark that people routinely spin. It stands at the intersection near Cooper Union and is an enduring example of minimalist public sculpture in Manhattan.
