Smithsonian's National Zoo (Woodley Park)

Established in 1889, the Smithsonian's National Zoo is part of the Smithsonian Institution and is one of the oldest zoos in the United States. The zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals representing approximately 400 species and historically housed giant pandas on loan from China until their return in 2019. The site offers free general admission and conducts research and conservation programs in coordination with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute.
