River House (Dublin)

River House was a controversial 5-storey brutalist office building located on Chancery Street in Dublin, completed in 1973. Initially serving as Dublin's only motor tax office, it became notorious for its architectural disfavor, being labeled an 'eyesore' and a 'scourge' of the area. After years of vacancy and anti-social behavior, the building was demolished in 2018 to make way for a new hotel, following a purchase by Melonmount Ltd. The redevelopment has faced criticism for its proposed design, highlighting ongoing debates about urban architecture in Dublin.
