Bartram's Garden and John Bartram House

Bartram's Garden preserves the 18th‑century John Bartram House and the surrounding botanical garden established by the botanist John Bartram; the site sits on the west bank of the Schuylkill River. The garden is often cited as the oldest surviving botanic garden in North America and contains historic plantings, an active research and education program, and a collection of early American horticultural documentation. Because the grounds extend along the river and are less centralized than downtown attractions, many visitors to Philadelphia do not notice the garden on first sight.
