Nashville Parthenon (replica of the Athenian temple)

The Parthenon in Centennial Park is a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens and serves as an art museum. Inside it houses a 42-foot statue of Athena Parthenos sculpted by Alan LeQuire and completed in 1990; the statue is gilded and modeled on ancient descriptions of the original. The building was constructed for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition and remains a landmark and cultural focal point in Nashville.
