Joliet YMCA

The Joliet YMCA, established in April 1882 in Joliet, Illinois, is a historic building that reflects the city's rich heritage. Originally struggling financially, the first YMCA closed in 1901. However, during the prosperous Roaring Twenties, a new seven-story building was constructed with significant funding, including a major contribution from the United States Steel Corporation. Opened on September 30, 1928, the building was designed by the sons of renowned architect Daniel H. Burnham and has served various community organizations, including the Rotary Club and Boy Scouts of America. Although initially limited in its services for women, an annex was finally added in 1950, marking a significant expansion of its facilities.
