Palace of Fine Arts

The Palace of Fine Arts is a Beaux-Arts structure originally built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition and reconstructed in the 1960s. Its rotunda and lagoon are frequently photographed and appear in films, commercials, and social media posts that are repurposed as memes representing San Francisco. The site is a popular backdrop for staged meme photos and viral image edits because of its distinctive classical architecture and reflective water. The Palace is managed by the Presidio Trust and the surrounding park is open to the public.
