Longwood (Milton, North Carolina)

Longwood is a historic plantation house located near Milton, North Carolina, originally built around 1810. This two-story Federal style home features a Greek Revival addition, creating an L-shaped structure. The interior showcases exquisite woodwork by renowned African-American cabinetmaker Thomas Day. The property includes several outbuildings such as a frame kitchen, log corn crib, log tenant house, and log tobacco barn. Notably, it was once the residence of U.S. Congressman Romulus Mitchell Saunders. Longwood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 but tragically was destroyed by fire in 2013.
