Despite its lively atmosphere, the club gained notoriety for alleged connections to organized crime and illicit activities, including prostitution. It faced scrutiny from local authorities, culminating in the suspension of its liquor license and eventual closure by the city council. The club's dramatic end came with two fires that gutted the building in December 1953, marking the end of an era for this once-popular venue.
