Washington National Cathedral - Long Construction and State Funerals

Construction of Washington National Cathedral began in 1907 and major work continued intermittently until its dedication in 1990, a span of 83 years. The neo-Gothic cathedral has hosted state funerals and national memorial services for U.S. presidents and other national figures, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and Gerald Ford. The building is an Episcopal cathedral and a designated National Historic Landmark.
