Mount St. Joseph Academy (West Hartford, Connecticut)

Mount St. Joseph Academy is a historic former school building located in West Hartford, Connecticut, designed by architect John J. Dwyer and constructed between 1905 and 1908. This impressive four- and five-story structure features Colonial Revival styling and is primarily made of red brick with limestone accents. Originally operated by the Sisters of Mercy as a Roman Catholic girls' school, it reached an enrollment peak of 565 in 1958 before closing in 1978 due to declining numbers. The building, which has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983, was renovated in 1996 and now serves as an assisted living facility known as Atria Hamilton Heights. Visitors can appreciate its architectural significance and the preserved interior features that reflect its storied past.
