Balto (Frederick George Richard Roth)

Balto is a bronze statue by Frederick George Richard Roth unveiled in 1925 to commemorate the sled dog of the 1925 serum run to Nome. The sculpture stands on a granite base near the Tisch Children's Zoo entrance in Central Park and was donated to honor the dog’s role in the lifesaving delivery of diphtheria antitoxin. The statue remains a well-known monument in the park and a frequent stopping point for visitors.
