Marblehead Colonial Raised House

The Marblehead Summer House, located in the historic district of Marblehead, Massachusetts, is believed to be the oldest existing three-story structure in the area, originally built as a one-story house in 1717. It was constructed by George Slocumb, a shoreman and joiner, and later transformed into a three-story building by Capt. Samuel Glover, a notable figure in the Revolutionary War. The house showcases unique colonial architecture, featuring a complex roof structure made from hand-hewn timbers and handmade wooden shingles. Today, it operates as an inn, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history and craftsmanship of early American colonial life.
