The Mitre, Newcastle upon Tyne

The Mitre is a historic Grade II listed building located in the Benwell area of Newcastle upon Tyne, originally constructed in 1831 as Benwell Towers by architect John Dobson. It has served various purposes over the years, including a residence for the Bishop of Newcastle, a fire station during World War II, and a nightclub before becoming famous as the setting for the BBC children's series Byker Grove. Recently, it has been repurposed for community use, including plans for an Islamic Faith school and community facilities, making it a site of both historical significance and contemporary community engagement.
