50 Carnaby Street, located in London's vibrant Soho district, has a rich musical history, serving as a hub for various influential music clubs throughout the 20th century. Initially opened as the Florence Mills Social Parlour in 1936, it became a gathering place for the black community, featuring jazz and calypso music. The venue transitioned through several notable clubs, including the Blue Lagoon Club, known for its controversial reputation in the 1940s, and Club Eleven, which promoted bebop jazz before its closure due to a police raid. The Sunset Club followed, showcasing Caribbean music and hosting the first steel band in Britain. In the 1960s, the Roaring Twenties nightclub became a hotspot for R&B and soul, attracting famous acts like The Beatles and The Who. By the late 1970s, it was known as Columbo's, where Bob Marley performed. Today, the site is home to a Ben Sherman shop, but its legacy as a cornerstone of London's music scene endures.
