California Theatre (1927 movie palace)

The California Theatre opened in 1927 as a large downtown movie palace and vaudeville house and is noted for its ornate Spanish Colonial/Spanish Baroque interior ornamentation. The building was restored and reopened as a performing arts venue in the early 2000s, preserving key historic architectural features such as decorative plasterwork and a grand proscenium. It remains a prominent example of early 20th-century theater architecture in San Jose.
