Tolstoy Park

Tolstoy Park, located in Montrose, Alabama, is a historic residence originally built by Henry Stuart, an Englishman who sought a warmer climate after being diagnosed with tuberculosis. Constructed in 1925, the unique circular hut features six top-hinged windows and was designed for a simple lifestyle, where Stuart grew his own food and wove rugs. Notably, the hut attracted visitors like lawyer Clarence Darrow. Although only the hut and a large oak tree remain today, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006, and a novel inspired by Stuart's life was published in 2005, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers.
