Bigelow-Hartford Carpet Mills

The Bigelow-Hartford Carpet Mills, located in Thompsonville, Connecticut, were once among the largest carpet manufacturers in the United States. Established in 1828, the complex features seven historic brick buildings, showcasing a vernacular industrial Italianate style, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. At its peak in the early 20th century, the company produced a wide variety of carpets, but operations declined during the Great Depression, leading to its closure in the 1960s. Today, the site has been largely converted to residential use, making it a unique blend of history and modern living, appealing to both tourists and researchers interested in industrial heritage.
