Pier 70 / Union Iron Works historic shipyard

Pier 70 on the southeastern waterfront was home to the Union Iron Works (later Bethlehem Shipbuilding) and has surviving nineteenth- and early twentieth-century industrial buildings, foundries, and drydocks. The shipyard produced numerous commercial and naval vessels and played a central role in San Francisco’s maritime and industrial infrastructure for over a century. In recent decades the site has been the focus of preservation and adaptive-reuse efforts that retain its historic industrial fabric.
