Grey Towers

Grey Towers was a striking gothic mansion built in 1876 in Hornchurch, England, originally owned by Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Holmes. During World War I, it served as the New Zealand Convalescent Hospital, accommodating 1,500 beds for soldiers. After the war, as Hornchurch developed into a suburb, the mansion was demolished in 1931 to make way for housing. Today, remnants of its history can be seen in the names of local streets and the relocation of its entrance gates to Hylands Park, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
