Arizona Diamondbacks inaugural season and ballpark opening

The Arizona Diamondbacks began play as a Major League Baseball expansion franchise in 1998 and opened Bank One Ballpark (now Chase Field) that same year as their home stadium in downtown Phoenix. The ballpark's opening coincided with the franchise's inaugural season and established an MLB presence in the city. The team went on to win the 2001 World Series while based at this stadium.
