Hampden County Training School

The Hampden County Training School, located in Agawam, Massachusetts, was a reformatory for boys from 1916 until its closure in 1972. This historic site, featuring a striking Classical Revival architecture designed by George P. B. Alderman, provided vocational training and agricultural skills to its residents. After its closure, the property transitioned to a police training academy before being sold in 2010 to a veterans support organization, which converted it into residences that opened in 2017. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers interested in the history of juvenile reform and architectural heritage.
