Aarhus Courthouse

The Aarhus Courthouse, known as Tinghuset in Danish, is a historic building located in Aarhus, Denmark, inaugurated in 1906. Designed in the Art Nouveau style by architects L.A. Ludvigsen and Julius Hansen, it originally served as both a courthouse and jail. The courthouse was built to accommodate the growing population of Aarhus, which had more than doubled in 40 years, and replaced an outdated facility. The structure features three wings of red brick, a granite-clad base, and distinctive architectural elements such as rounded arches on the lower floors and a large hip roof. Notable decorative features include bronze lions and lanterns designed by artist Karl Hansen Reistrup. Today, it houses the Aarhus County Court and is an important landmark reflecting the city's architectural heritage.
