Carnegie Building (Pittsburgh)

The Carnegie Building, completed in 1895, was Pittsburgh's first steel-framed skyscraper and served as the headquarters for the Carnegie Steel Company, founded by industrialist Andrew Carnegie. Standing 13 stories tall, it was a significant example of Chicago school architecture and a prominent landmark in Downtown Pittsburgh until its demolition in 1952 to make way for an expansion of Kaufmann's flagship store. Its historical importance reflects the city's industrial heritage and the evolution of skyscraper design.
