Columbus Monument at Columbus Circle

A 70-foot column topped by a bronze statue of Christopher Columbus sculpted by Gaetano Russo was dedicated at Columbus Circle in 1892. The monument was installed as part of commemorations marking the 400th anniversary of Columbus's 1492 voyage and stands at the center of the traffic rotary at the southwest corner of Central Park. It has long served as a major city landmark and meeting point at Columbus Circle.
