Riviera Hotel and Casino - demolished 2016 controlled implosion

The Riviera Hotel and Casino, which originally opened in 1955 on the Las Vegas Strip, closed on May 4, 2015 and its main resort building was removed by a controlled implosion on May 9, 2016. The demolition ended a long-running presence on the north Strip and was widely covered as a public event marking major changes in Strip development. The site has been subject to subsequent redevelopment proposals since the implosion.
