British Muslim Heritage Centre

The British Muslim Heritage Centre, located in Whalley Range, Manchester, is a Grade II* listed building with a rich history dating back to its construction between 1840 and 1843. Originally established as the Lancashire Independent College to provide higher education for Non-Conformists, the building showcases impressive Gothic Revival architecture. Over the years, it has served various purposes, including housing refugee academics during World War II and training trade union negotiators as the GMB National College. In 2004, it was repurposed as the British Muslim Heritage Centre, aiming to promote Muslim heritage and a balanced understanding of Islam in Britain. The centre has been recognized for its cultural contributions, receiving nominations for awards in the arts and culture sector.
