Diwan-i-Am (Red Fort)

The Diwan-i-Am, or Hall of Audience, is a stunning architectural marvel located within the Red Fort in Old Delhi, India. Built during the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, this hall served as a venue for the emperor to meet the public and address their grievances. The hall measures 100 ft by 60 ft and features exquisite craftsmanship, with 27 square bays supported by intricately designed columns and arches. Its impressive façade includes nine engraved arch openings and ornate plaster work, while the ceiling and columns are adorned with gold. A notable feature is the marble canopy (jharokha) that overlooks a dais inlaid with semi-precious stones, where the prime minister received petitions. The hall's rich decorations, including multi-colored pietra dura panels depicting flowers and birds, add to its historical significance.
