Rylands Building

The Rylands Building is a Grade II listed former department store located on Market Street in Manchester, England, within the historic Smithfield conservation area. Originally constructed in 1932 as a warehouse for the Rylands textile company, it showcases Art Deco architecture with distinctive features like a decorative corner tower. After serving as a department store for decades, it was known as Debenhams until its closure in 2021. Plans for redevelopment into office, retail, and leisure spaces are underway, with completion expected by 2025. The building also holds cultural significance, appearing in L. S. Lowry's famous painting, Piccadilly Gardens.
