Michigan Central Station prolonged vacancy and redevelopment

Michigan Central Station is a landmark Beaux-Arts train station in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood that was closed to passenger service in 1988 and subsequently remained vacant and deteriorating for decades. The building became an internationally recognized symbol of Detroit's postwar decline and attracted frequent urban exploration and documentation. In 2018 Ford Motor Company purchased the station and adjacent rail complex and announced plans to redevelop the site; rehabilitation work and site stabilization have been underway since the late 2010s and early 2020s.
