Schofield House

The Schofield House, also known as the Lanier-Schofield House, is a historic Federal-style building in Madison, Indiana, built in 1817. It was the first two-story brick house and tavern in the area, and it played a significant role in Masonic history as the founding site of the Grand Lodge of Indiana in 1818. Originally a residence and tavern, the house features a meeting room where early Masons established the lodge. After changing hands, it became a Masonic museum in 1975 and is funded by Freemason dues and donations. Visitors can explore its rich history, though admission is charged for non-Masons.
