Huguenot Memorial Park shell middens

Huguenot Memorial Park on Jacksonville's Atlantic coast contains documented prehistoric shell middens and other archaeological evidence of Native American coastal occupation prior to European contact. State and local archaeological surveys have recorded these shell deposits as part of a broader pattern of indigenous use of the beaches and estuaries in the area. The park preserves these cultural features alongside its natural habitats and allows public viewing of coastal archaeology in situ.
