Seven Buildings

The Seven Buildings, constructed in 1796 on Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., were among the earliest residential structures in the city. Notably, one served as the temporary home for President James Madison and his wife, Dolley, after the White House was burned in 1814. The buildings were known for their exquisite details and were once fashionable addresses, housing prominent figures like Vice President Martin Van Buren. Most were demolished in 1959, but two facades were preserved and incorporated into the Embassy of Mexico in 1986, making it a unique historical site for visitors and researchers alike.
