Pegasus neon sign atop the Magnolia Hotel

The red Pegasus neon sign was first installed atop the Magnolia Building (later the Magnolia Hotel) in 1934 as a symbol of Magnolia Petroleum and became an enduring Dallas landmark. The sign has been removed and restored multiple times; a restored Pegasus was returned to the building rooftop during the hotel's renovation and remains visible across downtown. The Pegasus is often used in imagery representing Dallas and appears atop the historic commercial building in the West End of downtown.
