Bust of Ferdinand Marcos

The Bust of Ferdinand Marcos, a 30-meter concrete monument located along the Aspiras–Palispis Highway in Tuba, Benguet, Philippines, was constructed in the late 1970s as a centerpiece for a planned Marcos Park. Its construction led to the displacement of indigenous Ibaloi residents, who were forced to sell their ancestral land at low prices. The monument became a symbol of controversy and was destroyed in 2002 by suspected treasure hunters, with the New People's Army claiming responsibility. The site has since been a focal point for protests against the Marcos family, reflecting ongoing tensions regarding the legacy of Ferdinand Marcos's dictatorship. Despite offers to restore the bust, the Marcos family has shown little interest in its rehabilitation.
