Panama Hotel - preserved Japanese American belongings and tea house

The Panama Hotel, located in Seattle’s International District, dates to the early 20th century and retains its original storefront and second-floor hotel rooms. Its basement stored personal belongings of local Japanese American residents who were forcibly removed during World War II; those belongings were later rediscovered and the collection has been preserved and interpreted as part of the building’s history. The hotel also houses the Panama Café/Tea House and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
